FiOS Speed Test

There are a number of different ways to test the speed and throughput of your FiOS or DSL connection. Verizon provides a test designed exclusively for FiOS customers.
How fast is your FiOS connection?

Verizon FiOS provides state-of-the-art connection speeds with its fiber optic technology. As a FiOS customer, you can measure the FiOS advantage by testing the upload and download speeds of your connection.

The speed test measures the amount of data that is uploaded and downloaded in a set amount of time. In other words, it shows how fast data moves through your FiOS fiber optic connection and demonstrates the superior speeds the Verizon FiOS provides.

The Verizon Online Speed Test works by sending bursts of random data for 10 seconds and then calculating the download and upload speed of your connection by measuring the amount of data transferred during that period. It is a java based test, so you must have java installed for the test to work. This fios review has comments from other fios users.

Verizon also has an older speed test that was designed for its DSL users. This test uses javascript, so it will work in almost all browsers, however it may not be as accurate.

The easiest and quickest speed test for all FiOS, DSL, and cable broadband customers is the Speakeasy speed tests. It uses Adobe Flash and provides the best user experience. You can select the datacenter closest to you for more accurate results: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Finally, there is DSL Reports speed tests, which consists of both Java and Flash based tests: http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest
